RBC launched the Lucky Loonie last month, and visitors to the branches were among the first to exchange a loonie for the 2008 Lucky Loonie! RBC is the exclusive distributing partner with the Royal Canadian Mint. In what is now a legendary tale, Canadian ice maker Trent Evans embedded a loonie at centre ice before the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City to bring good luck to Canada’s gold medal-winning men’s and women’s hockey teams. The Lucky Loonie from RBC symbolizes passing the luck of the loonie to the Canadian athletes competing at the 2008 Beijing Games. The tradition of the “lucky loonie” continues with this launch. Ten million 2008 Lucky Loonies, designed by Quebec wildlife artist Jean-Luc Grondin, have been produced and are available at RBC branches across the country. RBC is a Premier National Partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Check your pockets - you may find one in your loose change… pass the luck along!
