Congratulations to air cadet Flight-Sergeant Kevin Gabriel! Alone at the controls for the first time, the 17 year-old Whitby resident’s dream became a reality last July as the fledgling pilot completed the coveted First Solo as pilot-in-command of an aircraft. Kevin has been a member of 2 Vandenbos Whitby, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron for 4 years. Through acceptance of The Flying Scholarship program, Kevin has risen to the rank of Flight-Sergeant, a testament of his dedication to the air cadet program and his leadership potential. Kevin has mastered theory of flight, navigation, meteorology, airmanship – all the basic skills a good pilot must learn – as well as leadership, aircrew survival, aircraft identification, aerodrome structures, ceremonial drill and a host of additional training. When asked about his future, FSgt Gabriel says that he is focusing his education towards a career in the medical profession.
