ShelterBox Awareness
Last month, senior Guides from the 2nd Brooklin Girl Guides and members of the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise co-hosted an “Open Tent” in Brooklin. Members of the public and the media were invited to tour the ShelterBox tent and to learn more about Rotary’s ShelterBox program. Following the afternoon’s “Open Tent”, senior Guides from the 2nd Brooklin unit had a sleepover in the ShelterBox tent in solidarity with the people of Haiti, including members of Girl Guides in that country to help raise awareness of ShelterBox. The ShelterBox initiative supplies boxes containing tents and other emergency equipment to victims of natural and other disasters around the world. To date, over 7,000 ShelterBoxes have been shipped to Haiti and the shipment of another 13,000 is planned. The cost of each box is $1,000.
